China and other countries need to secure our Canadian oil.
So to keep them happy and Alberta's pockets lined with gold, Canada is building a pipeline to accommodate them, The Kinder Morgan Pipeline from Edmonton, Alberta to Burnaby, BC.
Estimated Projected Cost - approx. 7.4 Billion dollars.
There will be 980 km of new pipeline added, running parallel to and with, the already existing 1150 km Trans Mountain Pipeline. 73% of the route will use the existing right of way, 16% will use other infrastructure such as Telus lines, Hydro lines, and the highway system. 11% will be new right-of-ways. 193 km will be reactivated old pipelines. There will be 12 new pumping stations and 19 new storage tanks, 14 in Burnaby alone. Westridge Marine terminal in Burnaby will be expanded to allow 3 more berths. Existing old lines will carry; lighter oils and the new line; will carry heavier oils.
Kinder Morgan has projected 50 new direct full time jobs for British Columbia after it's completion and it's estimated that there will be about 800 spin off jobs created if we're lucky.
It's all about money isn't it? 7.4 Billion for what, China? Asia? USA? What about us? We Canadians in British Columbia need to feel happy too! Gas has never been more expensive here in BC.
We Canadians should have first access to any oil, discovered in Canada. I say, keep the oil in the ground where it belongs. Who knows, we might need it ourselves someday, eh?
