The First Man to Undergo a Complete Head Transplant - And He Volunteered!

He's Russian, 30 and his name is Valery Spiridonov. He suffers from a disabilatating disease called Werdnig-Hoffmann Disease.  A rare form of spinal muscular atrophy.   He needs a new body.

The neuro-surgeon Dr. Sergio Canavero  (dubbed Dr. Frankenstein) set the date, December 2017.  There will be over 150 doctors and nurses needed to perform the tricky operation.  An operation he successfully performed on a monkey.

No word on the monkey.  Poor thing.

Valery has all the faith in the world in this Doctor.  After they remove his head they'll reattach it to a healthy dead cadaver.  They say it may take him a couple of weeks to recover and off he'll go.  A new man.

Imagine that, only a couple of weeks, and it took me three months to recover from a kidney stone attack.

It puts a whole new spin on that age-old adage, "You can never feel another mans pain."
